On the 24th June the whole city celebrates its patron, San Giovanni Battista, considered the symbol of moral virtues and political fairness. An important appointment for everyone in Florence, and also an event that every years attracted many tourists and visitors thanks to its rich program of events.
Every year, in occasion of this celebration, the city livens up thanks to many cultural and folcloristic events: in the morning, a parade goes through the main streets, to remember the glorious past of the Republic of Florence, the parade ends with the last match of the Calcio Storico, that many people describe as the root of modern football, and that originated during the spanish siege of Florence by Charles V; in the evening, instead, the sky full of colors, thanks to the famous fireworks “i fochi di San Giovanni” as people from Florence is used to call them.
