Up to 21 active principles on one single non in conformity product but also 11, 13 and 14 substances on “regular” samples. That’s what comes out from the latest “Stop pesticides” dossier by Legambiente. According to the result of the researches, the irregular samples are in facts increasing, but the good news is that organic harvests and the eco sustainable agronomic techniques are also growing.
The fruit compartment was the one where they reported the highest percentage of irregularity:
grapes, strawberries, pear and exotic fruits (especially bananas) are often the most contaminated products.
Unfortunately, a specific regulation about the contemporaneous use of more active principles on the same product is still missing. That’s why some products are defined as “regular” and sold without any problem, even though they have been contaminated by more than one chemical within the established limits of the law.
And yet, the alternative to the massive use of pesticides are many: organic farming, that Probios highly promotes, and the sustainable agronomic techniques that don’t use any phytomedicine and have the goal to protect the biodiversity and the health of the soil.
In fact, the massive use of pesticide doesn’t only affect our health, but also the health of the environment, resulting in losing the biodiversity, reducing the fertility of the soil and accelerating the soil erosion.
To that, we also have to add the more than 200.000 deaths every year due to poisoning, mainly in the developing countries, where the health, the safety and the environment are not safeguarded.
